eLaundry is an on-demand laundry and dry cleaning service with the convenience of free doorstep pick-up and delivery at affordable prices all over Mumbai. Along with laundry and dry cleaning other services like Shoes Cleaning and repair, various other services are offered. Sofa, Chair, Carpet, Mattress) Cleaning, Bridal Wear (Dry Cleaning and maintenance), Leather Products cleaning etc have also been introduced at very affordable prices.
In an interview with Mr. Amit Chaudhary, the co-founder of eLaundry we had a close look at the operation of this company and his journey towards entrepreneurship. He is an MBA in marketing and IB and has worked for 5 years after completing his PG. The zeal to do something on his own drove him towards entrepreneurship and his prior experience helps him to run this business smoothly. He told the Startup Idols team that it was after dismissing various start-up ideas that he chose to work on laundry and dry cleaning. Finding a name for his start-up was easy and simple: Internet + Laundry = eLaundry.
As belongs from a family of non-entrepreneurs, he didn’t take his family in confidence while starting a laundry business. When he finally told his family, they initially resisted this idea and it took over a year for his family to accept this. Now his father is quite happy about his work. While talking about his co-founder, Amit told us that it was during his research for starting laundry business that he met his co-founder. They have been sailing together since then.
Laundry is always a problem with students, urban singles, and working couples. Amit was right in identifying this problem and setting his target audience. He aims to reach the top ten cities in India in coming years. About the competitors, there are three main things that give this business edge over others: 1) Convenience – Free Doorstep Pickup and Delivery 2. On Time Services 3. No Compromise on quality. The word about such a laundry service was initially spread through paper inserts and discount coupons then slowly Facebook and other social media marketing tools.
His role model is Mr. Ratan Tata and he idolizes him for his hard work and decades of long successful career. When asked what he would like to add further he recalled Mr. Ratan Tata’s saying that “I don’t believe in taking right decisions. I take decisions and then make them right.” He firmly believes in this saying and advises the same for upcoming start-ups.
